Why Wild Saplings?

Why Wild Saplings?

Why I Chose the Name “Wild Saplings”

Wild Saplings is more than just a name—it’s a piece of my heart. It represents the space where my creativity and motherhood meet.

I've always loved to create. But somewhere between the 3 a.m. feedings and endless diaper changes, that creative spark faded. Like many mamas, I lost a part of myself in the beautiful chaos of raising little ones. I simply didn’t have the time or energy to pour into anything that was just for me— but I desperately needed it.

After our second baby was born, something shifted. That first year was incredibly hard—I came close to losing my life more than once. Blood clots, illness, pulmonary embolisms, and more. And in those moments, I realized how important it was to reclaim something that brought me joy. I needed an outlet, a purpose beyond survival. I love my babies more than anything in the world, but I wanted to love me too. I wanted something that I could be proud of for me.

That’s when I truly committed to sewing. I had dabbled in it for years, but now I carved out time, even just a few quiet minutes in my craft room. It became my sanctuary. A space to be creative, to feel like me again. And I found that when I gave myself that gift, I showed up as a better mom.

We live in the interior of Alaska, and our two toddlers are as free-spirited as they come—barefoot more often than not, fishing, exploring, and helping us on the homestead. Our daughter’s name is Oakleigh, which inspired part of the business name. "Saplings" felt fitting, not only because of our love for nature, but also because our children are like little wild trees—growing, resilient, and deeply rooted in the life we’re building.

Besides sewing, I also love woodworking. Creating with my hands—whether it’s fabric or wood—fills me up. So “Wild Saplings” became the name for the space where I could nurture my creativity while raising my little wild ones.

This business is more than just handmade goods. It’s about showing my kids what it looks like to be courageous. To stop just talking about dreams and start chasing them. To be bold, confident, and unafraid to begin.

If you read this far, I want to say thank you for being a part of this for me. This is just the beginning, and I can't wait to see what is to come.
